1. PIN THOSE PITCHES!

Make sure you pin your pitches. This will depend on the functionality of the platforms you choose to pitch on. When people visit your profile (publishers, gamers, fellow devs etc) they can instantly see / share what you’re working on! After you #PitchYaGame… Pin your pitch!

2. GO WILD WITH BIO.LINK

Got a lot of things you’re working on? want to link them ALL from your bio? but can’t choose which one is best!

Stress no more!…. Use https://bio.link/

One link == multiple links.

3. GET YOUR HEADERS ON!

Use your profile headers to show the Indie Game you’re working on, when you #PitchYaGame! Marry it with your pinned pitches! When people click your profile, they’ll be greeted with your cool game art PLUS pinned pitch. Experiment. Keep it fresh. Make your profile count!

4. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT LIKES AND RTS

But they do help!… Our goal is NOT to get you Likes / RTs…

Our mission is to help recognize Independent video games collectively. #PitchYaGame (which has trended multiple times) gets quality eyes on your games when you #PitchYaGame, including publishers, scouts, investors, games media and more (all additional likes, rts and views are a bonus!)

5. ADD ALT TEXT TO YOUR IMAGES / GIFS!

Where you can, always use ALT text for your images / gifs to help describe the content of the media in your pitches. This aids accessibility and helps more people understand what your pitch is about, outside of what’s presented as text within your pitch.

6. MEDIA MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

The strongest (but hardest) media to use is VIDEO. Below we’ve ranked the mediums in terms of engagement. Video adds the extra dimension of views, which often aid virality. Additionally, to aid accessibility of your pitches, where you can, always use subtitles / transcripts in your videos.

NB: Don’t forget the ALT!

7. ITS ALL IN THE HASHTAGS

When you #PitchYaGame, think about the accompanying hashtags you use. Because these will ultimately help define who (else) sees your pitch! Just remember some platforms have different ettiquette when it comes to hashtags and how many are advised etc; remember you’re already using one with #PitchYaGame.

Examples:

You get the picture =D

8. DON’T WASTE A PROFILE VISIT!

Due to the nature of the event, the pitches get an incredible amount of attention; so set yourself up ready (incase) by making sure you have “somewhere” people can find out more about your work and include that link in your bio at the very least!

9. POLISH UP YOUR BIO

Adding hashtags / keywords to your bios will also help people find you when searching.

Plus to help them connect with what it is you do when they visit your profile.

Don’t spam them in. Just add a few that describe the types of Indie Games you make. Or the work that you do.

10. ITERATION IS KEY!

Work on your pitch. Experiment, iterate, try new things, show new content, mix it up! With a 6 month development lead between awards, you’ll have plenty of time to polish up those pitches.

No one knows exactly what pitches work better than others but get the basics right and you stand a greater chance of being noticed.

It’s like the lottery… only with much better odds!

11. ELEVATOR PITCH

Try to make your pitches for #PitchYaGame attention grabbing!

Give them structure.

Then put your best foot forward by including solid gif / video / images as media.

This is your elevator pitch. Make it count!

12. KEEP IT ALL CLEAR

Caution the use of fancy fonts, unicode, emojis and symbols etc in your usernames, bio and pitches as it a) adversely affects screen readers… if used sparingly they can help without hindering.

b) depending on the device the user is browsing on also your username might end up just a row of boxes!

13. ALL THE DATA ARE BELONG TO YOU!

While you shouldn’t base everything on Likes / RTs it does help to see which pitches you post resonate more.. Analytics can be a very useful tool! Check to see if the platforms have analytics tools built in.

14. HOOK, LINE & SINKER!

Lastly… one of the most important things when crafting your pitch is to write it so it engages. You want it to instantly hook whoever sees it; a skill in itself. Experiment and hone it over time. Pitching is a transferable skill that you can carry forward into your steam page, website copy, emails and more.

Make sure to proof-read it. =D
